Cusco- Huaran- Cancha Cancha- Queuñacocha- Lares- Machu Picchu by train 

Description

This path departs from the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the route has amazing scenery, we will see snow-capped mountains, lagoons, forests of Andean trees like “Queuña” which are part of the area declared like Private Protected Area by the Peruvian Government; also there are many Quechua's communities which their principal activity are the textiles. At the end of the trek, the route offer a natural hot springs that is special enjoys it before to go to Machu Picchu with renewed energy. Along the route the Social help is appreciated.

Day 1:Cusco to Cancha Cancha 

You will leave Cusco in the direction of the community of Huaran, where the horses and muleteers that will carry the luggage will be waiting for you. You will have time to prepare before starting the walk. Once ready, you will begin the journey to the Cancha Cancha community. There, you will appreciate the lifestyle of its friendly settlers. Then, you will have free time to enjoy lunch and explore the place before resuming the walk. After approximately 1 hour, you will arrive at the place where the camp will be established. There, you will have time to rest, have tea and walk around. At night, you will dine under the stars before resting for the next day. 

Total walking distance: 12 kilometers 

Minimum height: 3300 m.a.s.l. 

Maximum height: 4250 m.a.s.l. 

Walking hours: 6 hours 

Degree of difficulty: 4 out of 5. 

Day 2: Cancha Cancha to Queuñaqocha Lagoon 

After breakfast, you will leave the camp and start walking towards the first step: open Pachacutec. From there, you will appreciate imposing glaciers and beautiful mountain ranges. Then, you will descend through the mountain until you reach Quishuarani, where you will have an hour for lunch. Then, you will resume the walk towards the camp. Once installed, you will have time to rest, have tea and walk around. At night, you will dine under the stars before resting for the next day.

Minimum height: 3800 m.a.s.l. 

 Maximum height: 4400 m.a.s.l. 

Walking hours: 8 hours 

Degree of difficulty: 4 out of 5. 

Day 3:WillkiccasaLaresAguas Calientes 

After an energetic breakfast, you will leave the camp and set out for Willkiccasa, where you will see glacial lakes and a puna area. From that point, you will descend for about 3 hours to reach the Baños de Lares, where you will have time for lunch. Then, you will get on the bus that will take you to Ollantaytambo station, to board the train in the direction of Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. 

Total walking distance: 16 kilometers 

Minimum height: 3300 m.a.s.l. 

Maximum height: 4100 m.a.s.l. 

Walking hours: 7 hours 

Degree of difficulty: 4 out of 5. 

Transfer from Lares to the Ollantaytambo station. 

Day 4:Aguas Calientes, Cusco 

You will have breakfast at the hotel and will then board the bus in the direction of Machu Picchu. After going through the entrance control, you will go inside Machu Picchu, where your guide will explain the history, organization and mysteries of the place. At the end of the almost 3-hour tour, you will board the bus that will take you to the town of Aguas Calientes. There, you will have free time to tour the town or have lunch, before heading to the train station, where you will board the train that will take you back to Cusco. Once there, you will be taken back to your hotel. 

Transfer from Lares to the hotel in Cusco.

Minimum Altitude: 3,778 masl / 12,395 ft. 

Distance Travelled: 10 km / 6.21 ml 

Approximate Hiking Time: 5 hrs.
