Ocean Raptures 4D/3N Mandala Option

The Pacific Coast of Ecuador is a dramatic place that belongs on the itinerary of every trip to Ecuador. Sun-drenched, rocky coastlines are punctuated by tranquil sandy beaches where fishing boats are moored just offshore. Rare tropical dry forests grow on the hillsides, and local restaurants beckon with fresh seafood. On this tour, you will start to experience the true flavor of the peaceful, stunning Ecuadorian coast with a visit to the home of the Panama Hat at the town of Montecristi.

Day 1 : Manta (or Guayaquil) – Puerto Lopez

Private transportation from Manta (or Guayaquil) to Puerto Lopez
Today we will take you to the Salango Museum where you can get a better idea of the historic importance of this region in the pre Hispanic era. Here you can see the remains of a number of local cultures that played an important role in the chain of coastal towns that dominated the region a thousand years ago. The Señorío de Salangome (the present community of Agua Blanca) was the most important in the region stretching well to the North even to the present province of Esmeraldas.

Lunch included

Night at the Hosteria Mandala (Standard room)

Day 2 : Puerto Lopez – Isla de la Plata

Isla de la Plata
After a healthy breakfast we will leave for a full day visit to Isla de la Plata, often referred to as a Galapagos in miniature, where you will be able to see much of the same wildlife, blue footed boobies, marine iguanas etc. that can be seen on the famous islands themselves. Here you can walk on trails and explore the Island where Admiral Francis Drake is supposed to have hidden a treasure of silver. You can look for it if you like. Another more fruitful option is snorkelling or just swimming in the warm water of the Pacific.

A hearty box lunch is included. Later we sail back to Puerto López and return to the hotel, for a meal, some good conversation.

Day 3 : Puerto Lopez

Panama Hats
After breakfast, we we will visit the town of Montecristi, where the world renowned ´Panama´ hats are actually made, and where the country´s constitution was written. The town is also the birth place of one of Ecuador´s most famous Presidents, Eloy Alfaro, the leader of the country´s liberal revolution at the end of the eighteenth century and a celebrated moderniser.

For lunch you will be able to enjoy a delicious sea food meal, made with delightfully fresh sea food.

Half Day Agua Blanca Museum

Agua Blanca is a private community within Machalilla National Park hosting remains of one of the most ancient civilizations in South America, the Monteño, along with trails and a sulfur lagoon.

The trailhead to your right immediately after the main gate takes you through a 5km trail along the riverbed and ends before the museum.

From the museum, a guide will take through a short nature trail with a couple of river crossings. Since it’s also an easy, flat trail it’s recommended you wear sandals. At the end of this trail is the sulfur lagoon. You’re encouraged to jump in, so bring your swimwear. Mud is routinely collected from the bottom of this pool so guests can apply their own facial mud masks.
